KIDS BEDROOM REVEAL
This kids bedroom reveal with new Roman shades showcases before and after views featuring new wall colors and window treatments from Select Blinds. This process involved the help of both my children for this grown up kids bedroom reveal with new Roman shades!
GROWN UP KIDS BEDROOMS
This blog post is a long time coming! For those who watched the painting and redecorating process on Instagram stories, thank you for your patience! During the month of February, I managed to transform both kids rooms for a more grown up look they can enjoy during their teenage years. Since they’ll be the ones spending the most time in here, naturally I enlisted their help in choosing new wall colors and window treatments. But first, let’s go back and share what these rooms looked like before they were given their updated look!
AVA’S ROOM BEFORE

I personally loved the vintage feel of my daughters room, (visit this post for details on blush wall color), however, she’d been requesting a change for months. She starts high school in the fall, so this was the perfect time to give her a fresh new look! I loved getting her involved, after all, she’ll be spending the most time in here and I want her to love it! This was a budget friendly update, as we kept most of her decor the same. We visited our local paint store and she picked out this beautiful lavender hue, Nosegay by Benjamin Moore. I’m a Sherwin Williams fan, so I asked them to custom mix in their Duration brand in a matte finish.
TYLER’S ROOM BEFORE
Sadly, Tyler has never really had a room that showcased his love for many things! We both agreed he was past the age of having a “themed room” and decided to create a space that screams all things Tyler! His last room (seen above) was fun with two twin beds on either side of the window. I always thought the look was cute and his room could pull it off. We soon learned that it wasn’t functional and the other bed was never used. It also took up valuable space in his room and so the inspiration search began!

Now, before I go any further, let’s give our attention to the updated window treatments from Select Blinds. You may have noticed the woven wood shades in the before photos above. They are also from Select Blinds and those details can be found here. Well, about a year ago, we had the upstairs windows framed out. This cosmetic update caused the existing woven woods to not fit properly. Please note: This was not a product defect, this was simply an oversight on my part when figuring the inside mount of the window trim. This error resulted in choosing a new product, one I’ve always wanted to see in our home. Select Blinds has an unbelievable selection of Roman drapery shades. They also offer free samples, so I requested several in neutral shades and narrowed it down to three. In Ava’s room, it came down to which one matched the trim and curtains… Cloud White was the winner and we are so happy with the texture and softness it brings to her room. We chose a privacy lining and love the plastic clips at the base of the shade to help keep the fabric clean.
Please enjoy these next few photos of Ava’s room. As mentioned, we kept the decor the same, just switched things around a bit to give it an updated look! It’s amazing how paint can completely change the look of a space! This new wall color really brightens up her room and I love that we were able to use her existing bedding and pillows… Thanks to a Christmas gift card we had leftover, we found this cozy throw for the foot of her bed. Love how it ties the room together, while keeping this room on a budget!
You may have noticed the blog title, “kids bedroom reveal.” That’s right, Tyler’s room got a refresh too… A big one! He loves to climb, play guitar, watches Stars Wars with his Dad and loves to draw! Transforming his room took most of February to design and I didn’t do it alone! With the help of Pinterest and a few talented bloggers, we gathered inspiration and came up with our own version of our favorite “pinned” rooms! Thanks to Erin at SunnyCircleStudio for her kindness and resources! During our inspiration search, Tyler and I kept coming back to her adorable sons room she featured last March. We loved the layout and furniture pieces she used and decided to use very similar pieces!
Our first order of business was the wall color. Tyler already had a dark accent wall, but I decided to take a chance and go bold! We went for it and painted all four walls a gorgeous navy blue… Sherwin Williams Indigo Batik, to be exact. I knew with the inspiration I gathered from Erin that using light furniture would help make the room feel bolder and brighter! I partnered with a Utah based company, Walker Edison to update his room with new furniture! A queen chevron platform bed, white 4-drawer dresser and white night stand did the trick for giving his room a grown up modern feel! The desk (Tyler’s request) and bookcase are sourced below and frame the room beautifully! Who knew dark walls and light colored furniture would actually make his room feel bigger! As mentioned before, the previous window treatments needed to be replaced due to updates. Select Blinds to the rescue for this grown up Tyler look! For his Roman shades, we chose the color, Natural Linen and love the contrast with the white window trim!
Tyler has so many interests; I wanted to incorporate them all tastefully. He’s on the local CLIMB team and attends local and statewide meets… He loves it! He also had the opportunity to meet Tommy Caldwell in person, which grew his love for El Capitan and the documentary, The Dawn Wall. For those interested in learning more, I encourage you to watch the documentary… So good!

Tyler has been taking guitar lessons for the last year. In an effort to keep his guitars safe, we purchased wall mounts and instantly, it made for the best decor! We hung them on either side of his desk and visited our local antique store for some cheap and fun decor… Vinyl records!
For under $30, I was able to create a dramatic wall of vinyls! It was fun to go through them, as I decided colors and record titles. Some have a special meaning to us too!

There is plenty of inspiration on Pinterest when it comes to hanging this nostalgic piece of flair! My sweet friend, Liz at Love Grows Wild shared a tutorial back in 2013 on how to hang them without damaging your wall!
I hope you’ve enjoyed this lengthy post of my kids bedroom reveal! They absolutely love their new rooms and it warms my heart that they were involved in the process!
