Special thanks to Top Knobs for the opportunity to partner on this project.
All opinions are my own and my experience with the brand and it’s products.
First of all, I want to say a big thanks to all of you for your patience during this updated kitchen reveal! Due to Covid, the process took longer than expected, but it was well worth the wait!
Before I move forward with the full reveal, let’s take a look at our kitchen when we built four years ago. We’ve really enjoyed the over sized island and open concept looking into our living room. At the time, we didn’t have it in the budget to take our cabinets to the ceiling, but I knew we would eventually. Over the last year, we saved to make it happen and the results are the highlight of 2020!
We quickly learned through monotonous measuring that taking our cabinets to the ceiling was no small task! We hired the same crew that built and installed these four years ago, because they knew the best way to go about it! Our inset cabinet style made it especially challenging because we had to make sure the framing would line up with the existing cabinets. I love the attention to detail and constant measuring to insure they would look like they’ve always been here!
Below is a progress shot before the crown molding was added to the top of the upper cabinets.
As the upper cabinets were going in, we quickly realized the existing hood style would not blend well and look seamless. We tossed some ideas around to make it work, but ultimately decided a new hood style would look best. Once we came up with the new design, they built the new hood right over the old and instantly, I loved it!
Just a few weeks before Christmas, the kitchen was complete and painted! We hired professional painters to insure everything was properly color matched to the existing cabinets and the paint finish was the same throughout. I took this “behind the scenes” shot to show the care and attention they took prior to painting.
This is the built-in addition we added in the breakfast nook prior to the upper cabinets being installed. It was easier to wait until everything was complete to paint. The prep work actually takes longer than the painting, so it made sense to do it all together.
Here’s a progress shot of the breakfast nook painted. We waited to install drawers and doors to insure everything was completely dry. I ordered glass inserts from a local glass company and those were installed using silicone gel, which I helped to apply. Once that cured for 24 hours, the doors were ready to install.
I don’t have a full reveal of this space yet, as we are waiting for our electrician to install an upper sconce and outlet above the countertop. I couldn’t resist, however, giving this space a little Christmas cheer! I absolutely love the floating shelves and honey bronze knobs from Top Knobs. We added this 7″ bar pull to the tall cabinet doors, as seen in this close-up. The hardware we used for this renovation will be listed below, including direct links to their website.
To say we are thrilled with the results would be a HUGE understatement!
The best way to show you everything is through lots and lots of pictures. I created a mood board using samples of all the things we used throughout our kitchen and breakfast nook. I love creating these visuals to help me decide what textures and colors will blend well together.
I’m still deciding on the right pieces to display in the upper glass cabinets. I realized I’m being super picky about this, hence the reason there is nothing there yet. I’m on the hunt for large over sized pieces that make a statement!
THE HARDWARE
It’s important to discuss the details of our gorgeous new hardware from Top Knobs! My experience with them was beyond anything I could have imagined and I’m so thankful for the chance to work with them on this renovation. They have a huge selection of hardware, so naturally, it was difficult to choose. Thankfully, they were gracious to send me samples of my favorites and I was able to narrow it down. I immediately knew I wanted to use their honey bronze finish, a beautiful and subtle brushed brass that instantly transformed our kitchen!
This is the stunning Hollin Cup Pull we used on the lower cabinets. The existing hardware posed a small challenge with needing to hide the 3 inch holes. A cup pull design was the best way to disguise them without patching and painting. This 3.75″ cup pull fits perfectly on the island cabinets and the honey bronze finish pops against our Gauntlet Gray!
I instantly fell in love with this dainty knob and knew it was the one for the new upper cabinet doors. This is the Kara Knob in honey bronze and she was well worth the wait!
Front and center is the new hood and upper glass cabinets with these adorable cabinet latches! I knew I wanted to incorporate latches in this kitchen design and was so thrilled that Top Knobs carried them! I also decided to add this 12″ bar pull to the dummy drawer below the stove for easy hand towel access. I love the charm and detail it adds.
I love this shot of our kitchen from the front entry. Here’s a distant view of the breakfast nook built-ins with glass doors and uppers. I can’t wait to show you the sconce I chose to go above the upper floating shelf!
Since we have an open concept, I wanted to use the same Hillmont pulls on the lower cabinets in the living room. I love the subtleness of the honey bronze. Here’s another view of them at night while we were relaxing and watching a movie.
I hope you enjoyed this tour of our updated kitchen reveal! I’m excited to finally show it to you! I’ll be sharing a kitchen tour on my Instagram stories, so be sure to watch those for closer details. It will be saved on my story highlights under “Kitchen”. Thank you all for your support and if you have any questions, please leave them below in the comments!
Blessings,

Hi! Lovely kitchen renovation! Could you please share what color your kitchen cabinets are painted? We are also doing agreeable gray walls, and I love how your white cabinets don’t read yellow against it. Thank you so much!!

Hello! Your kitchen is beautiful! We are actually building our house and are cabinets are snowbound and I’m looking for a hood range to match my cabinets. I love your hood range. Where did you get it from?
Thank you,
Sarah

Hi Sarah… Thank you so much! My cabinet maker and I designed the hood when we took the cabinets to the ceiling. We built a new one right over the existing hood. Everything in our home is custom built and designed by me and built by the contractor. Hope that helps!

Love your blog, kitchen and the fact that you are a Christian! Question, what are tour countertops?
Alicia says
Hi Carrie… Thank you so much for reaching out! Our kitchen countertops are a quartzite we found at a local manufacturer that our builder works with… I’m sorry I don’t have more information for you!

Your kitchen is beautiful!!! We too are adding enclosures for our cabinet soffits. I am on the struggle bus in pulling the trigger for my white paint color though. I have greek villa (sherwin williams) in my house at the time being but am struggling with this decision. Do you mind telling me what color white you used in your kitchen? I am placing a subway tile backsplash and I need to make sure it will go with that. Thanks in advance!

Hi Katherine… Sorry for my delayed response. Our cabinet color in the kitchen (and throughout our home) is SW Snowbound. Hope that helps!
